New transmissions are being built by automaker Chrysler and the results will benefit all of us; after years of work and millions in investments, new eight- and nine-speed transmission will be getting put in new 2014 year models of popular vehicles like the Jeep Cherokee, Dodge Dart, and Chrysler 200. So what exactly makes these transmissions so great? Come along with Mitchell Chrysler Dodge RAM and take a look.
According to Scott Garberding, Senior Vice President of Manufacturing for Chrysler Group LLC., the new nine-speed transmissions are being built to achieve fuel economy requirements over the next few years, as well as to bolster the work quality and quantity of the employees at the machining and production plants affected by the investments. It's always wonderful to hear an automaker cares about their workers' life quality and job security.
As for the investments, two years ago the automaker put $72 million into their Toledo Machining Plant to get the production of the nine-speeders up to modern standards. Recently, they decided that wasn't enough and dropped an additional $19.6 million into the updating of the plant to help speed things along and increase capacity for the transmission production.
Chrysler has, in total, spent $374 million updating their plants. Several facilities in the Kokomo, Ind. branch have seen big changes coming and there's even going to be a new manufacturing site in Tipton, Ind. for even further increases in production of the nine-speed transmissions. Chrysler is proving they're very serious and very determined to bring us better products with better fuel economy than ever before.
